Job Description:
A forklift driver is responsible for operating a forklift to safely and efficiently move goods, pallets, and materials around a warehouse or industrial facility, including loading and unloading trucks, stacking pallets, and relocating inventory while adhering to strict safety regulations and company procedures; they also perform basic equipment checks and maintenance to ensure proper functionality.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Operating forklift:
Driving a forklift to move pallets and materials throughout the warehouse, including maneuvering in tight spaces and navigating around other workers and equipment.
- Loading and unloading trucks:
Carefully loading and unloading goods from delivery trucks using the forklift.
- Stacking and unstacking pallets:
Precisely stacking pallets in designated storage areas according to inventory control instructions.
- Inventory control:
Maintaining accurate inventory by verifying product quantities and locations
- Safety checks:
Performing pre-shift inspections of the forklift to ensure it is in proper working order, including checking fluid levels, lights, and brakes.
- Documentation:
Completing necessary paperwork related to product movement, including receiving and shipping documents.
- Following safety guidelines:
Adhering to all warehouse safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and following proper forklift operation procedures.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Valid forklift operator license
- Strong hand-eye coordination and good depth perception
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy loads
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Basic mechanical knowledge for routine maintenance checks
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
Work environment:
- Primarily in a warehouse setting, which can be noisy and may include temperature fluctuations depending on the facility.
- May involve standing for extended periods and performing repetitive motions
