Key Responsibilities:
A  Industrial Valve Shop Technician is responsible for the mechanical assessment, repair, and testing of various industrial valves—such as control, pressure relief, and manual valves—within a shop or facility environment. They ensure that equipment used in sectors like oil and gas or manufacturing meets strict safety and quality standards before being returned to service. 
 
  1. Maintenance & Repair: Disassemble, clean, and inspect valve units for wear or defects. This includes rebuilding and refurbishing components like bodies, seats, and stems.
  2. Testing & Calibration: Perform pressure and seat leakage tests to ensure structural integrity. Calibrate valves and related instrumentation to manufacturer specifications.
  3. Equipment Operation: Use manual and power tools, torque wrenches, and precision measuring instruments like calipers or micrometers. They may also operate heavy equipment like overhead cranes or forklifts for material handling.
  4. Documentation: Record critical dimensions, maintenance activities, and test results in computer tracking systems or on physical service tickets.
  5. Facility Upkeep: Maintain a clean and safe workspace, including sandblasting, painting, and greasing valve components. 
  6. Tear down and rebuild of various oilfield components to customer requirements.
  7. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  8. Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and prevent equipment breakdowns.
  9. Assist with the installation and setup of new equipment.
  10. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  11. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
  12. Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.
  • Typical Requirements:
  • Education: A High School Diploma or GED is standard; technical certifications or an Associate's degree in a mechanical field are often preferred.
  • Physical Demands: Technicians must be able to lift 50–100 lbs consistently and work in noisy, industrial environments that may involve climbing ladders or prolonged standing.
  • Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read technical drawings, blueprints, and pressure testing charts.
