Key Responsibilities:
A Industrial Valve Shop Technician is responsible for the mechanical assessment, repair, and testing of various industrial valves—such as control, pressure relief, and manual valves—within a shop or facility environment. They ensure that equipment used in sectors like oil and gas or manufacturing meets strict safety and quality standards before being returned to service.
- Maintenance & Repair: Disassemble, clean, and inspect valve units for wear or defects. This includes rebuilding and refurbishing components like bodies, seats, and stems.
- Testing & Calibration: Perform pressure and seat leakage tests to ensure structural integrity. Calibrate valves and related instrumentation to manufacturer specifications.
- Equipment Operation: Use manual and power tools, torque wrenches, and precision measuring instruments like calipers or micrometers. They may also operate heavy equipment like overhead cranes or forklifts for material handling.
- Documentation: Record critical dimensions, maintenance activities, and test results in computer tracking systems or on physical service tickets.
- Facility Upkeep: Maintain a clean and safe workspace, including sandblasting, painting, and greasing valve components.
- Tear down and rebuild of various oilfield components to customer requirements.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and prevent equipment breakdowns.
- Assist with the installation and setup of new equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.
- Typical Requirements:
- Education: A High School Diploma or GED is standard; technical certifications or an Associate's degree in a mechanical field are often preferred.
- Physical Demands: Technicians must be able to lift 50–100 lbs consistently and work in noisy, industrial environments that may involve climbing ladders or prolonged standing.
- Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read technical drawings, blueprints, and pressure testing charts.
